Programs For Children

Incursions and creative play activity sessions

Whether it’s our whole body warm up song and dance, our novel drawing materials and tools or our group drawing approach, we’ll have your whole group engaged in the energy and excitement of a Squiggle Kids incursion.*

Yes, it’s not all about drawing! We start with a big warm up to get our bodies and voices ready and ideas flowing. This also helps us to warm up to working as a group and scoops up the children that may be reluctant to draw.

The group drawing activities create opportunities to demonstrate and practise communication, language and social skills through sharing ideas, stories, space, tools and materials. Putting paint stick to paper practises the physical and cognitive skills used in writing.

While our time in the classroom is short, early learning professionals often tell us that drawing in groups, together with all the chat that flows, continues long after our visit.

If parents attend (we’d encourage them to join us), we’ll provide some key information about drawing with children and point out some of the learning and development magic that happens when children draw. We also take the opportunity to say to parents – “Yes, you can do it too!”

The kindergarten, early learning centre or organisation can choose a theme for the incursion from a range offered by Squiggle Kids. All themes support fine motor development, build communication and promote play opportunities. In addition to these objectives, some of our themes also aim to enhance children’s emotional literacy, social relationships, awareness of community and cooperation and provide a sensory experience.

*Internal surveys of early years professionals since Term 3 2023 suggest that around 92% of children usually reluctant to participate in making and drawing join in our sessions.

It was a really great class for parents. The instructors are amazing and they have plenty of ideas and information about drawing. Keep motivating and teaching parents. Thank you.

Squiggle Kids has helped me to see drawing completely differently and shown me how easy and fun it is to build it into our daily lives.

I have been raving about how great I found your program. I have been able to quickly and effectively integrate the practice of group drawing into my program without too much extra work needed. My team and I have found it has opened up many more conversations with children and very much supported reluctant drawers to pick up a pencil or other tool and draw with us. This has had the added bonus of extending their tolerance for trying other new art techniques and now the class is using a wide variety of tools to express and make meaning as well as have fun.

Paint sticks and big pieces of paper are now part of our rhythm!

The workshop was very enjoyable and a fun learning experience. At the end I certainly noticed the team were motivated and energised to try out some new ideas to use drawing as a means to further support our children and their families in their learning.

From attending a Squiggle Kids incursion with my child, I learned just how important drawing is and why. It’s really motivated me to make sure drawing is always on offer at home!

Squiggle Kids was a great incursion for our kinder children. It really helped the children identify with their behaviours and how this impacts both themselves and also their peers. It was great to see the children so engaged throughout the whole incursion and their voices being heard through conversations and their drawings.

“As a kid, I always felt bad at drawing. So when my daughter wanted to draw with me I’d suggest she draw with the ‘good drawers’ in the family instead. After speaking to Lauren from Squiggle Kids about drawing, I know how important it is, how good it is to do it together with your child and now I really enjoy drawing with my daughter.”

My five year old and I did a Squiggle Kids program and we both loved it. The sessions were planned with remarkable thoughtulness, care and creativity. My son was so engaged and declared multiple times (per session) how much fun he was having. Lauren and Debbie created activities based around his interests and gave him the space to take the lead. His confidence grew during each session and he’d always continue drawing after the day’s session had finished.

We’d love to hear from you!
